The president of AFAPREDESA and the deputy delegate of the Polisario Front in Portugal took part last Saturday in the III Amílcar Cabral March, held in Lisbon in a climate of serenity, unity and firm pan-African commitment.
During the march, slogans in favour of the freedom of oppressed peoples were repeatedly heard, with cheers for the Saharawi people and the Palestinian people. At the end of the march, dances, songs and speeches by the various participating delegations were organised in an atmosphere of fraternity and protest.
In his speech, the president of AFAPREDESA thanked the kind invitation and stressed that the struggles of African peoples are identical, as they are inspired by the same ideals and principles for which Amílcar Cabral gave his life. He recalled that on 4 September 2026 the United Nations returned the map of Africa to its authentic dimensions, after centuries of distortion that began with the Mercator projection in 1569. “Today it is time to return to African peoples their wealth and their dignity, and to guarantee that no African is forced to undertake the fateful crossing of the ocean or the Mediterranean in search of a better life,” he stated.
Within the framework of these events, the president of AFAPREDESA also recalled the vile assassination of Salvador Allende and drew a parallel between the struggles of originary s peoples, expressing particular solidarity with the Mapuche people. Likewise, the European Union’s complicity in the plundering of African natural resources was forcefully condemned, the most illustrative case being the illegal agreements with Morocco that violate international law and perpetuate the occupation of Western Sahara.
The III Amílcar Cabral March culminated in the reading and adoption of the III Pan-African Declaration of Lisbon (2026), entitled In Defence of the Earth / For Life – Recognise, Repair, Decolonise. In it, the inalienable right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and to live freely in their land is reaffirmed, an end to the genocide in Palestine is demanded, and the continuation of Berlin’s colonial diktat over the territories and resources of the last colony in Africa is denounced.
AFAPREDESA welcomes this important mobilisation and reiterates its commitment to the unity of African peoples and their diaspora in the struggle for justice, dignity and effective decolonisation.
